Support Sugar Reform!

Be heard on the Hill: tell your Representative (not Senators) to vote yes tomorrow (Friday) on the Pitts Sugar Reform Resolution when it comes before the full House of Representatives.  This an opportunity to bring some much-needed sanity to the sugar program!

We expect sugar reform champion Congressman Joe Pitts (R-PA) and other members to offer a sugar reform resolution which will ask Senate and House farm bill conferees  to restore the flexibility that the Secretary of Agriculture had prior to 2008 to manage sugar imports. Right now, the Secretary has no authority to import sugar between two arbitrary dates, October 1, 2013, through April 1, 2014; this limited action would restore some balance to the marketplace by reducing the wild price spikes in sugar that have led to overproduction and costly loan forfeitures this year.
